On November 10th 2014, a dedication ceremony was held to mark the completion of the first phase of renovations at Liberty Place, affordable housing for veterans in Downtown Phoenix. Representatives from Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun, Community Housing Partnership, project sponsors, volunteers, and community supporters attended the ceremony which also featured Phoenix City Councilman, Michael Nowakowski. The first veterans are expected to move into the units this week.

The ceremony marks the completion of renovations started this past summer organized by Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun in coordination with the Community Housing Partnership and with key sponsorship from USAA, Honeywell, Arizona Diamondbacks, Safelite AutoGlass, DPR Construction, Starkweather Roofing, Erickson Construction, Milgard Windows & Doors,WindowStar, Finish Line Carpentry, Metrie, Irontree Plumbing, DP Electric, Saguaro Steel, Sierra Waste, Apartments Resurfacing, Attic Energy Solutions and Sunland Asphalt.

Additional volunteer support was provided by Arizona State University students in the Construction Management program and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

"Affordable housing projects like Liberty Place give veterans a sense of stability as they work toward regular employment and independence," said Rebuilding Together Executive Director Dennis Flynn. "Our involvement in the rehabilitation of Liberty Place is something we will carry with us for a very long time."

Approximately six percent of veterans live in poverty and nearly 4.2 percent are "housing burdened" by paying more than 50 percent of their income on housing. Veterans represent nearly 16 percent of the overall homeless population and 21 percent of the street-living population in Arizona.
